Pure hiking pleasure

Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll, a guided hike, a hut-to-hut hike or a summit climb, the Zell am See-Kaprun hiking region, with its Pinzgau grass mountains, offers beginners and experienced hikers more than 400 kilometres of marked hiking trails.


The Schmittenhöhe, Zell am See’s local mountain at 1,965 metres, invites you to enjoy eventful hiking tours with breathtaking views. For a sporty tour – medium difficulty – we recommend the Pinzgauer Spaziergang. You start from the Schmittenhöhe mountain station and hike to Saalbach on one of the most beautiful high-altitude trails in the Eastern Alps. The breathtaking panoramic view of the 3,000-metre peaks will inspire you.

Lake Zell

Lake Zell impresses with its first-class water quality and a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Water sports enthusiasts will find everything their hearts desire here.

There are three BEACHES available for your beach holiday – the Zell am See beach, Thumersbach beach and Schüttdorf beach. Here you will find a sunbathing lawn, direct access to the lake, a diving platform, slides and additional pools.

How about a relaxing boat trip on Lake Zell? Four boats – the MS Schmittenhöhe, the MS Großglockner, the nostalgic Libelle and the Kaiserin Elisabeth – offer you the opportunity to enjoy the stunning scenery.

Cycling, e-biking & mountain biking

Explore the region in the heart of the Hohe Tauern mountains by bicycle or e-bike and soak up the stunning scenery.

Local bike rental services offer bicycles, e-bikes and mountain bikes for one or more days, depending on your requirements and fitness level, and are happy to assist you with any questions you may have about cycle paths and mountain bike tours.

In addition to leisurely bike routes, the Zell am See-Kaprun region also offers exciting freeride trails on the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel mountains for enthusiastic mountain bikers.

An extensive network of well-marked cycle paths and mountain bike trails awaits you:

  • MTB tour to Keilberg (4.9 km, 301 metres elevation gain)
  • MTB tour to the Maiskogel (19.3 km, 838 metres elevation gain)
  • E-bike & cycle tour around Lake Zell
  • E-bike tour to the Krimml Waterfalls

Golf

Two 18-hole golf courses – Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn – are available for golf enthusiasts.

Perfectly maintained and idyllically nestled in the Salzburg mountains – here you can swing your club in a relaxed atmosphere.

Special leisure activities for families

Schmidolin's World of Adventure on the Schmitten

The Schmittenhöhe offers a wide range of entertaining activities for families.

The little dragon Schmidolin accompanies your children on their exciting adventure through the forest – great puzzles, tests of courage and climbing opportunities ensure lots of fun and stimulate creativity and imagination

Schmidolin’s baptism of fire promises an adventurous adventure trail with the aim of helping the little dragon learn how to breathe fire.

Summit World 3000

The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier allows holidaymakers to go tobogganing in the ICE ARENA even in summer and enjoy themselves in the snow.

Sliding equipment is provided free of charge. At an altitude of over 3,000 metres, even more special experiences await you and your loved ones – from Gipfelwelt 3000 with the National Park Gallery to the ‘Top of Salzburg’, Salzburg’s highest viewing platform, and the Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour.

Maisi speedster

Throughout the year, you can enjoy a spectacular ride on the Maisiflitzer – reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h, this two-seater sledge whizzes down steep curves from the Maiskogel towards the valley.

In summer, there is also a family and leisure park with slides, a bouncy castle and much more.

Ferleiten Wildlife and Adventure Park

Located directly at the entrance to Käfertal, Ferleiten Wildlife and Adventure Park invites visitors to explore and discover – up to 200 native animals can be found here.

While parents relax at the rustic Wildpark Alm, children can let off steam in the adventure playground.

Since 2024, visitors have also been able to try indoor black light mini golf – you can put your skills to the test on 19 artistically designed courses.
